Mar 17, 2003 · JEWELERS BUILDING (1926-1928), at 35 E. Wacker drive, on the southwest corner of N. Wabash avenue, later the Pure Oil building (1928-1962), was built 1925-1927. Giaver & Dinkelberg were the engineers and architects, and Thielbar & Fugard the supervising architects.

Jun 02, 2016 · When the 40-story Jeweler’s Building was first built in the 1920s, the dome seems to have sat empty for some time. In 1932 it was reported in the Tribune that a hawk had taken up residence in the dome and was preying on migratory birds in the loop. A reference or two in the archives seems to indicate that it was used for storage.

The Jewelers Building was built in 1882 and became and Designated Chicago landmark in December 1981. This is one of only a few surviving Adler & Sullivan buildings in Chicago and is an outstanding example of a commercial commission from their early period.
